We are Washington DC Pickleball, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting amateur pickleball in the nation's capital.  We work closely with the Department of Parks and Recreation and with the National Park Service to provide opportunities for players of all levels to enjoy.

  • In partnership with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the National Capital Area, we hosted a sibling match event at Anacostia Park in October 2024. Kids and mentors shared a 90-minute coaching session, with every participant learning to rally, play, and laugh together. Two pairs received paddle kits donated by the Washington DC Pickleball.

  • Inspired by an article in the Washington Post about Roger BelAir teaching pickleball in prisons, volunteers from Washington DC Pickleball reached out to the DC Department of Corrections to see if a similar program was possible at the DC jail. The response was enthusiastic, and weekly play began at the jail in April 2024. Since then the number of volunteers has grown to more than 10, with regular play occurring indoors in the gym, and outdoors on three courts painted for pickleball. We look forward to welcoming these new players to our pickleball community when they return home.

The Robert M. Krughoff Pickleball Center

Coming Spring 2026!

WDCP is building five new pickleball courts in Southeast DC. In July 2018, a group of mostly seniors from Capitol Hill began playing pickleball on an abandoned, dead-end roadway just south of Garfield Park. Robert Krughoff and Margaret Crenshaw were the driving force behind the development of these courts. In 2023, Washington DC Pickleball, in collaboration with the Capitol Riverfront BID, formed a stakeholder group to permit the road for public use through the DC Department of Transportation. After three long years of work, DDOT approved the permit, paving the way for the construction of five state-of-the-art pickleball courts with semi-permanent nets. The Krughoff Pickleball Center will ensure access to open free play on dedicated courts.

We need your help to bring the Krughoff Pickleball Center to life. Our goal is to raise $75,000 by March 2026. Funds raised will cover the cost of court surfacing and painting/ lining, semi-permanent nets, barriers, a storage container, and other features as well as ongoing maintenance. All donations will be collected and processed by Washington DC Pickleball - a 501 (c) (3) organization - and transferred to the BID for payment.
